The Pear & Salvage Home @ Gallery Night

The Pear & Salvage Home is delighted to present the beautifully crafted work of fibre artist and teacher, Harriet Ridnour for our first Gallery Night of the year. Harriet will demonstrate her craft as well as showcase her meticulously crafted rugs, scarves, shawls, mittens and hats, which will also be available to purchase. Vintage textiles have been a passion for Harriet for many years. She has been involved in fibre art all her life, sewing and knitting when she was younger, and selling antique textiles and sewing tools later. Harriet finds knitting both relaxing and meditative. She also loves to teach. Fifteen years ago she began rug hooking and now helps beginners, sells supplies, organizes annual classes, as well as work on her own projects.

During winter The Pear has undergone somewhat of a transformation. To celebrate spring and beyond we have a vast array of fabulous new products, vintage wares and household goods to help brighten your home. Come and see for yourself.

On April 1st, 2017, from 5pm to 9pm.

We will be serving complimentary punch and delectable hors d’oeuvres catered by Mineral Point’s favorite pizzeria, Popolo. https://www.facebook.com/popolopizzeriaMP/ Everyone is welcome.

We love December Gallery Night at The Pear & Salvage Home. Our charming little town of Mineral Point becomes even more impossibly so, as it transforms into a glittering wonderland courtesy of the hundreds of luminaries that line the streets, especially for this annual event.

Mark your calendars Peeps:  Saturday, December 3rd, Gallery Night at The Pear with special featured regional artist Susan Colby (from 5pm to 9pm).

Artist Susan Colby

Painter, designer, clothing manufacturer, businesswoman, raconteur, canine lover and all-round creator extraordinaire, do come and meet the dynamo Susan Colby herself. Susan, will be accompanied by her beloved hound Bracken aka The Flooze (on account of being an excellent flirt).

Susan & The Flooze

Possessing the drive and energy of someone half her age,  one might be forgiven for thinking that at 75, Susan Colby might consider slowing down.  Hell to the no on that one. Designing and running her own company alongside longtime business partner Burt Avedon, Susan divides her time between Avedon & Colby International Outfitters and painting. Originally an art teacher, she says, “Because my career has always been involved in ART…I see that and me as living an Adventure Responding to what is True.”

For more info on her company Avedon & Colby International Outfitters, check it out here: https://www.avedoncolby.com

Using mixed mediums, mostly oiled crayon on gesso “released” with turpentine  and controlled with pencil line, Colby’s paintings are rich, playful, beautifully textured and filled with color.

The Pear will also be brimming with gorgeous, locally handmade scarves, hats and mittens (perfect for warm and toasty gift giving).

The Pear will be open on Saturday from 10am – 9pm. Gallery Night with Susan Colby (and The Flooze) starts at 5pm.

Meanwhile feast your eyes on some more of Susan’s wonderful paintings. Some are huge, some are medium sized, others, small and dainty. Come on down to The Pear to see for yourself.

Honey Me This, Honey Me That, Honey & Bread is Where its At…

We’re buzzing about getting ready for Gallery Night (5pm – 9pm, Saturday, August 6th). Indeed we’re as busy as the bees who will be paying us a visit with their boss (no, not their queen, their boss), The Honey Bee Lady herself.

Fran Demo is bringing in a small, enclosed hive to demonstrate how the magic is made. Her bees produce the nectar of all honeys here in south west Wisco. Come on down to The Pear and try Queen Bee Acres Pure and Natural Honey for yourself. We will be smothering it on fresh baked, homemade sourdough bread. The bread’s name is Tony. Why is the bread called Tony? Well, if you’ve ever kept a sourdough starter alive and healthy, you’ll know it’s like having a pet, and needs to be fed twice a day. Who doesn’t name their pet?

Bread, (Tony), butter and honey. The bee’s knees or bust.

What a tasty old Gallery night we have in store for you!
